January 2017 Plymouth

Welcome to 2017! In our first issue of the year, you'll get an in-depth look at what it takes to be a paid, on-call firefighter (and much more!) We are excited to continue sharing the stories of the Plymouth community with you this year.

Like many photographers, Pat Yentzer’s love for the art began when he was a teenager. He started out with a Minolta 35mm camera, which used film. “I took pictures for the yearbook, and I published some fancier photos in Wisconsin newspapers, where I grew up,” Yentzer says.

Winter in Minnesota means cold weather. For winter sports enthusiasts, this is good news. For everyone else, it can be hard to find the motivation to get outside. Luckily, many Plymouth restaurants are ready to welcome you in from the cold.

January typically has all the snow you could want, so why not go snowshoeing? French Regional Park has multiple snowshoeing events this month, providing wintery fun for the whole family.

Plymouth is home to some of the youngest talents in freestyle skiing, an extreme sport that resembles gymnastics on skis.

At any given time, there are about 70 local residents—teachers, carpenters, real estate agents, insurance salesmen and business owners—carrying a pager 24/7, trained and ready to assist the Plymouth Fire Department

Jacob and Nathan Ritter are a formidable duo. The 18-year-old twins maintain 4.0 GPAs at Wayzata High School, play competitive chess, and are part of a weekend hockey league.

With nearly 350 sites nationwide, The Joint is changing the way patients typically receive chiropractic health care.

From a young age, Abby Cooper’s life has revolved around reading much-loved books, creating her own neighborhood libraries and putting her thoughts and feelings into writing.

After the holidays, we often have items we no longer need. Goodwill is a great place to donate your gently used items. Coats and warm clothes are always welcome, as well as clothes for warmer weather in the coming months. Consider donating books, jewelry and old electronics.

When the winter weather is getting you down, try making a hot buttered rum recommended by Tim Won, manager of Sid’s Discount Liquor.

It’s the new year, and you may be deciding that now is the right time to get healthy. We checked in with Sean Gleeson, a trainer at Lagree MSP in Plymouth, about starting a workout routine and developing strategies to keep it up.

Need to find an indoor activity for your kids during the winter? Plymouth has multiple options. The Plymouth Ice Center has open skating throughout the year. Mini Hops Gymnastics offers Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day camps.

It’s the new year and a great time to start eating healthier foods without sacrificing an adventurous palate.
